 2012 Awards Program

The Kentucky Association for Career and Technical Education (KACTE) and the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) provides an opportunity for worthy educators and supporters of career and technical education to receive state, regional and national recognition.  Over the years, Kentucky has been well represented with many national award winners.

The awards program seeks to promote excellence in career and technical education by recognizing individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the field, programs that exemplify the highest standards, and organizations that have conducted activities to promote and expand career and technical education programs.

There are twelve (12) categories of ACTE awards:

  • Carl Perkins Humanitarian Award
  • Arch of Fame
  • Award of Merit
  • Outstanding Service Award
  • ACTE Teacher of the Year
  • ACTE Outstanding Career and Technical Educator
  • ACTE Outstanding New Career and Technical Teacher
  • ACTE Outstanding Teacher in Community Service
  • Awards for Excellence Automotive Service
  • ACTE/NIOSH School Lab Safety Award
  • Policymaker of the Year
  • ACTE Image Award

All awards are reviewed and administered by the Awards Committee of KACTE.  Please follow the submission guidelines stated on these particular applications if you plan to nominate an individual or program.  Applications are available by following links posted in the KACTE website.

In February, 2004, the KACTE Board of Directors voted to move to an extended review cycle for the following awards:

  • ACTE Teacher of the Year
  • ACTE Outstanding Career and Technical Educator
  • ACTE Outstanding New Career and Technical Education Teacher
  • ACTE Outstanding Teacher in Community Service

These award winners will be applying at the state level this year, and the winner will have an entire year to complete the Regional and National level application process.  In other words, they will be competing for the 2012 Kentucky Awards and the 2013 Regional and National Awards.  The Board felt that this would allow the individuals the time to carefully revise and prepare their dossiers.  Individuals for these award categories should complete the Kentucky application (available on the KACTE website), which has fewer requirements than the nationals.  The winners will receive their materials back at the state meeting in July to begin revising and preparing for the 2013 Regional and National Awards.  The state level awards applications - using the new short form - must be submitted by     January 31, 2012 to:

Criteria and applications for the Carl Perkins Humanitarian Award, Arch of Fame, Award of Merit, and Outstanding Service Award remain the same.  The Kentucky Awards Committee will review applications of the nominees, and winners for each category will be forwarded to ACTE Headquarters for further review.  For these four awards, use the printed applications available through KACTE website.  Please return these award applications, by March 15, 2012 to:

 Wayne King, KACTE Awards Chair
(same as above)

Complete national applications for each award are now available on the ACTE website and can be located at, http://www.acteonline.org/awards.aspx.  The awards information is linked from the About ACTE page, which is accessible from the ACTE homepage.  As with many other associations, ACTE is moving to a more paperless format.  For those unable to access the website and download the applications, please contact me for a hard copy.

Let’s continue the success of the Kentucky Association in the National Awards Program.  Please encourage those individuals worthy of recognition to apply!!!
